The Australian High Commission in Bangladesh has announced the selection of 70 Bangladeshis to receive Australia Awards 2019 scholarships.
According to a press release on Tuesday, more than 600 Bangladeshis applied this year for Australia Awards scholarships. The recipients will begin their Masters studies at Australian universities in February 2019.
They would be able to study in various top Australian universities, in a number of fields, including: public finance, cyber security, environment, engineering, international trade and development.
Australian High Commissioner HE Julia Niblett said: “We were very impressed with the high standard of applicants; with respect to both their commitment to their studies and aspirations to continue to drive economic development in Bangladesh on their return.”
She said she was quite pleased to see that 50% of the awardees are female and 10% of successful applicants in the 2019 intake are from ethnic minority communities.
Australia Awards are prestigious international scholarships financed by the Australian Government. They offer an opportunity for the next generation of global leaders to embark on studies, research, and professional development in Australia.
Australia has been offering scholarships in the region for almost 70 years and, specifically, to Bangladesh, since 1972.
